SPECIALS
Specials
Our holistic program is designed to promote each child’s intellectual, social, physical and emotional growth. To that end, we incorporate a wide range of weekly specials into our set curriculum to introduce our students to creative, physical, and stimulating activities beyond the classic classroom routine.
Visual Arts: Introducing children to the vast world of art sparks their imaginations and inspires their creativity! In addition to class time art projects, our dedicated art instructor works with the children to expose them to different artists and their artistic styles.
Music: This Special develops children’s innate musical abilities with tunes and instruments that inspire them to sing and dance! Children learn new songs and musical techniques from a professional music instructor and develop an ear for music, including tempo, beat and rhythm.
Yoga: Yoga promotes a child’s self-esteem and body awareness through a physical activity that is non-competitive. Through this calming and body-conscious activity that focuses on breathing, children learn techniques for self-health and relaxation. The practice of yoga in young children also enhances their flexibility, strength, coordination, and overall concentration.
Science: Explore the fascinating wonders of our physical world with engaging and interactive experiments! This class guides our students in hands on exploration of specific science topics through fun experiments that are both engaging and interactive. Children will discover how science can help us to better understand the world around us.
Spanish: Cutting-edge research in brain development emphasizes the benefits of learning a foreign language at a very early age. Starting foreign language instruction early sets the stage for students to develop advanced proficiency in one or more languages. In this class, students will build pathways needed to acquire a new language while also enhancing cognitive and creative abilities.
Sports: Our dynamic sports instructor will teach the children the fundamental elements of tennis (forehand, backhand, serves, volleys), golf (grip, posture, putting, backswing, alignment), and basketball (ball handling, dribbling, passing, shooting) during weekly classes throughout the year. These interactive and exciting sports lessons will help develop hand-eye coordination, balance, speed, and movement coordination, all while helping to build confidence and promoting teamwork and perseverance.
Gardening: An extended sensory experience as children discover the beauty and intricacies of the great outdoors! Botany experts engage the children in an interactive gardening environment where children can observe, discover, experiment, nurture and learn. The whole process of gardening is an extended sensory and learning process which starts with researching the right plants to grow, preparing the soil, digging and planting, watering, weeding and observing the plants growing and flowering.
Little Explorers: Little Explorers provides children with outdoor sensory and guided imaginary play in POTA’s own Nature Playscape! Nature-inspired discovery and themed centers help inspire reverence for the outdoors and support children’s emotional wellbeing. Catering to POTA’s youngest learners, this class is gentle on the senses and makes full use of our natural playscape, allowing our children's imaginations to soar in the great outdoors.
Shabbat Celebration: Jewish culture, holidays, and morals are studied and celebrated with songs, stories, cooking, and crafts. Shabbat is celebrated at school each week in an atmosphere of joyful togetherness and sharing. Children enjoy weekly Challah baking and welcome Shabbat with songs and excitement.
Visiting Artist: POTA’s unique Art and About program welcomes visiting local artists into our preschool and provide our students with the special opportunity to create a piece of art with a professional.
